Questions and Concerns?
Many people have valid common concerns about karate-do and whether it is an appropriate activity for them. Please browse this web site to find out more about the Toronto Academy. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call us at (416) 924-3123.

The Toronto Academy of Karate was established in 1970 as an outgrowth of the popular University of Toronto karate programme to offer people in the general community the opportunity to learn authentic karate-do and physical fitness.

Since then, the Academy has established an international reputation for its high standards and rigorous discipline.

Classes are taught to the highest standards of safety and technical expertise, combining the ancient martial arts with modern scientific research. Dr. Burt Konzak is both a world renowned martial artist and scholar with over twenty-five years of experience as a University of Toronto professor in physical education and health and other departments teaching ethics, Asian philosophy, and martial arts. Training at the Toronto Academy is truly unique, innovative, and authentic - non-violent, intense, intellectually and physically stimulating. The international recognition of the Academy derives from this special approach.

We are located in central Toronto at Deer Park Public School near Yonge Street and St. Clair Avenue E., and at St. Sebastian School near Dufferin Streen and Bloor Street W. As well, we teach at several other locations throughout the GTA (Greater Toronto Area). Members of the main dojo are welcome to attend any of these other classes.

Along with the physical training, six-week courses in Zen Buddhism and Asian Philosophy are offered during May and June of each year. These classes, taught by Dr. Burt Konzak, are at the same academic level as his Zen courses at the University of Toronto.
