Exactly as it sounds, Philosopher's Walk is a very meditative location to train. All outdoor classes will be held rain or shine. (Karate-ka are not afraid of the rain! We do, however, bring rain gear if it looks like rain. Large trees on the field provide a canopy that protects us from all but the heaviest downpour.)
Location: Behind (west of) the Edward Johnson Building, south of the Royal Ontario Museum and the Royal Conservatory of Music.
Directions:
The main entrance to Philosopher's Walk is on the south side of Bloor
St. between the Royal Ontario Museum and the Royal Conservatory of Music,
just west of University Avenue. Just walk south about 100 meters and you
will see us on the left of the path beside the back entrance of the
Edward Johnson Building.
You can also enter from Hoskin Avenue, just west of University Avenue,
by walking north.
For those driving, there is plenty of street parking on Bloor and
Devonshire and other side streets (if you are there early enough).
There is municipal parking on Bedford Rd., just north of Bloor and
a second parking lot just west of the Royal Conservatory with a
special evening rate.
Access is also convenient from the west side of University Avenue, just south of the Museum subway station exit, just behind the Edward Johnson Building which is south of the Royal Ontario Museum. Simply walk down the lane on the south side of of the ROM and turn left (south) at the west side of the Edward Johnson Building.
Class Schedule:
General classes will be held from 6:30pm to 8:00pm and advanced class will be held
from 8:00pm to 9:30pm.
Note that shoes are required for outdoor
classes. Gi's, sweat suits,
shorts, tee shirts, and tank tops are all acceptable as clothing.
There are washrooms to change in at any of the restaurants along Bloor
Street, or in the Edward Johnson building adjacent to our training area.
(Go down the stairs. The washrooms are located under the staircases.)
